From the game-
The Race... You used to only dream of getting into it one day. It seems now
that the moment has come. The boss wants a new, unexpected winner. This has
to be you.
?
Gangsta Race is all about being someone else's tool. Used or abused- those
are your choices. No free thinkers allowed. No second thoughts, no back-talk.
Just young 'yes sir' kids who are experienced at fast car racing. Crash and
you'll get no cash. But why should you care? After all, it?s not your
car, and this is not a full time job. If you perform well, maybe some table
scraps will tumble your way. Don't get too excited about a life of luxury- the
money carrying the bet says a replacement will be in your seat in less than
one week.
?
There are actually three ways to win in Gangsta Race. Racer, shooter, survival.
Racer game mode is a classic racing competition - the goal is to drive your
car faster than your opponents and finish first. First place the prize is $10,000,
second - $6,000, third - $5,000, and so on. With shooter mode the goal is the
same as racer mode, with the added dimension of weapons. These weapons range
from smart missiles, bombs, bottles full of oil, nails, ect. The third mode
of playing is survival mode. You do not have to hold little side conversations
with the other drivers before the race. If you tried, they would think you were
up to something, and shoo your gloved hands away from the machinery. Even survivalists
have a code of conduct. Since you won't be voted off, there is nothing to fear,
right? If you think that way, expect the boss to start looking for a replacement.
Just make it through all the laps intact, no transforming your boss's vehicle
into a scrap metal. For encouragement or shall we say 'white knuckle' incentive-
the boss tosses a target vehicle to attack at you in passing much like someone
throwing a book of matches across a saloon counter. Best keep an eye on the
other cars as well, or that book of matches causes a nasty flint burn. You can
make cash not only by finishing in the top places, but also by eliminating your
opponents or collecting the gold pieces that are thrown onto the road. Knocking
the opposition out is worth $500, while a gold piece scattered on the track
is worth $50. Finishing the race in the top three slots will net $9,000, $6,000
and $3,000 respectively.

?
After a few laps around the closed-to-the-public track, gamers will enjoy the
ease at which their racer is directed. Using stylus or direction pad, movement
is intuitive. This removes the impediment found in most race-car games requiring
a constant finger pressed on a particular button. Yes, the vehicle moves at
the player's request, but often with the end-game result of a sore thumb or
finger.
?
Gangster Race gets all the fine details right, making this 'a must have' race
game. Game display comes in four flavors, lots of interesting drivers to choose
from, fast frame rate on the standard 206 processor, decent sound and last but
not least- the opportunity to make lots of cash.
